The symptoms

Overactive bladder (OAB) is a condition in which you have lost control over your bladder. When you suffer from an overactive bladder, you typically have to rush to the toilet to be in time, you find it difficult to resist the urge to pee and you urinate more frequently than usual, including more than one toilet visits during nighttime. Approximately 1 out of every 8 women suffers from an overactive bladder, which can be a significant burden to their social life. If an overactive bladder is diagnosed in an early stage, treatment is usually effective and quality-of-life can be fully restored again.

Fingerprinting your (overactive) bladder

Diagnosing an overactive bladder is largely based on a thorough insight in your specific voiding behavior. This insight is typically obtained by filling in a voiding diary with intakes, pees and leaks during at least one period of 24 hours. So far, such voiding diaries have been paper-based only. But with the introduction of iP Voiding Diary, you can now conveniently enter all this input directly in your iPhone (or iPod touch). No more hassle with pen and paper in the toilet; quickly and discretely keep track of all the relevant data that your doctor needs to confirm the diagnosis overactive bladder.

Why would I use an app for that?

iP Voiding Diary is not just an easy tool for entering your data; it also contains a state-of-the-art reporting module, that uses intuitive infographics to show you your results in comparison to international standards. You can even send the report of your results as a pdf-file, directly from within the app, to your doctor (or to yourself). In this way, you are fully prepared for a visit to your doctor in order to evaluate whether or not your symptoms relate to an overactive bladder.

Treatment of an overactive bladder

An overactive bladder can be treated by a combination of pelvic physiotherapy and specific medicines. Such medicines reduce the overall amount of urine production, increase the volume of your pees and largely inhibit the typical urine loss that you may suffer from. iP Voiding Diary can also play an important role in therapeutic bladder training programs. Such programs aim at overcoming the frequent moments of urinary urge that arise from an overactive bladder.
